Quick overview

  • Genuine Zodiac The factory bearing, part number R0527000, not an aftermarket copy.
  • Two places, one part Zodiac uses the same bearing at the wheel and at the engine on the MX8.
  • For the MX8 The suction side cleaner this bearing was made for.
  • A wear item Bearings run in dirty water all season, and a dragging or noisy wheel usually starts here.
  • Small part, whole cleaner A seized bearing loads up the engine and slows the cleaner down long before it stops.
  • Worth buying in pairs With the cleaner apart it costs little to change more than one, since they all wear at a similar rate.

Product details

The Zodiac R0527000 is the genuine bearing for the MX8 suction pool cleaner. Zodiac uses it in two places on the cleaner, at the wheel and at the engine, so the same part number covers either repair.

Why bearings fail

The MX8 spends its life dragging itself across a pool floor in water carrying sand and grit. Bearings take that load hour after hour, and when one starts to bind the wheel stops turning freely and the engine has to work against it. The cleaner slows, covers less ground, and often gets blamed on suction before anyone checks the running gear.

Checking before you order

Turn each wheel by hand with the cleaner out of the water. A good bearing spins smoothly and quietly. One that feels gritty, notchy or stiff is done. Since every bearing on the cleaner has seen the same hours, it is worth inspecting the rest while the cleaner is open rather than doing the job twice.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Which cleaner does this fit?
The Zodiac MX8 suction pool cleaner.
Is this the wheel bearing or the engine bearing?
Both. Zodiac lists R0527000 as the bearing used at the wheel and at the engine.
How many do I need?
That depends on which positions are worn. With the cleaner opened up it is worth checking every bearing, because they see the same hours and the same grit.
How do I tell a bearing has failed?
A wheel that will not spin freely by hand, a gritty or notchy feel as you turn it, or a cleaner that has slowed down and sounds rougher than it used to.
