Product details

The Zodiac W74000 is the Baracuda compression ring, a molded plastic ring listed right across the Baracuda suction cleaner range.

How widely it is used

Zodiac shows this one part number on the diagrams for the G2, G3 and G4, the Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 3 and Alpha 3 Plus, the Beta, the Ranger, the Zoom, the Pacer, the Wahoo and the Baracuda 1500. It is one of the few parts that carries over almost unchanged across generations of Baracuda cleaners.

What it does

The ring belongs to the disc assembly at the base of the cleaner, the part that seals against the pool floor and lets the cleaner walk. It clamps that stack together. A ring that has cracked or gone out of shape lets the assembly move around, and the cleaner starts skating over the floor instead of gripping it.

When to change it

Most owners meet this part during a diaphragm or disc replacement. Since the cleaner is already apart at that point, it is worth looking at the compression ring closely rather than putting a tired one back in behind new rubber.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Which cleaners take this ring?
Zodiac lists it very broadly across the Baracuda range: the G2, G3 and G4, the Alpha, Alpha 2, Alpha 3 and Alpha 3 Plus, the Beta, the Ranger, the Zoom, the Pacer, the Wahoo and the Baracuda 1500.
Is it the same ring on all of those?
Yes. W74000 is the single Zodiac part number listed for all of them, which is why it appears on so many Baracuda diagrams.
What is it made of?
Molded plastic, matching the original.
When should I replace it?
Whenever the disc assembly is off for a diaphragm or disc change. A cracked or distorted compression ring will not hold the stack together properly, and that shows up as a cleaner that will not hold to the floor.
