Product details

The Hayward DEX2400DA is the element for a 24 square foot DE filter. It is the genuine Hayward part and is listed with the Pro Grid DE and Micro Clear DE filter parts.

How a DE element works

A DE filter does not filter with the grid itself. The element is a rigid frame covered in fabric, and the diatomaceous earth you add at the skimmer coats that fabric to form the actual filtering layer. The element only has to hold the coating evenly and let clean water through.

When to replace one

Once the fabric tears, splits at a seam, or pulls away from the frame, the DE washes straight through instead of holding. The classic sign is a cloud of white powder at the returns after recharging, or filter pressure that never settles back down after a backwash. Inspect the whole set with the tank open, because a grid that has failed in one place is usually not the only tired one.
