This is the Hayward Paramount SDX2 retro safety drain in black, part number 004192221303, listed for concrete pools.

The retro version

Retro means retrofit. Rather than being installed as part of a new floor, this version is designed to go onto a sump that is already in the pool, which is how most drain cover replacements happen. The rest of the SDX2 family covers new construction and other finishes.

Choosing the color

Black sits quietly on a dark or pebble floor and disappears far better than a white cover does. The SDX2 line also comes in white and light grey, and there is a matching grate version, so a pool with a pair of drains can be finished consistently.

Fitting and replacement

Drain covers are safety parts and should be installed exactly as the manufacturer specifies, with the correct sump and fasteners. Any cover that is cracked, loose, distorted or past the life date stamped on it needs to come out of service straight away.
