What the floats are for
The feed hose has to stay up off the pool floor. Floats spaced along it hold it there so it feeds the cleaner without dragging, snagging on the main drain or wrapping around the cleaner itself. When floats crack or take on water, the hose sinks and coverage suffers straight away.
Worth checking the whole hose
Floats age together. If one has gone, the rest are usually close behind, so it is worth walking the hose and replacing any that sit low or rattle with water inside.
