The Paramount SDX2 is a main drain grate for concrete pools, supplied here in white. It is rated to 188 gpm and holds velocity at the floor to 1.396 feet per second at that maximum.
Why the sump requirement goes away
A conventional main drain needs a sump field fabricated to the 1.5 times pipe diameter rule, which is slow work in a concrete shell and easy to get wrong. The SDX2 is approved as a bulkhead fitting, with the safety carried by the cover and the backplate, so no sump has to be built behind it.
How it carries the flow
The face uses a patented ribbed design that splits the opening into 60 independent flow partitions. That spreads the draw across a large area rather than concentrating it, which is what keeps floor velocity low at full flow. A center shield in the middle of the grate blocks direct contact with the suction.
This version comes with a plaster ring for new concrete applications. If you are replacing an existing suction fitting rather than building new, the SDX2 Retro is the separate part to look at.
