Product details

The Pentair 071515 is the pilot generator for MiniMax and MiniMax Plus pool and spa heaters, supplied with the Q313A clip. It is the genuine Pentair replacement.

How it works

A millivolt heater runs without line power at the gas valve. The pilot flame heats the tip of the pilot generator, the generator produces a small voltage, and that voltage is what keeps the main gas valve open. When the generator ages and its output drops, the valve can no longer be held open and the pilot dies as soon as you release the button.

Before you replace it

Check the pilot flame first. A weak, yellow or misaimed flame gives the same symptom as a dead generator, and a new part will not fix a dirty pilot orifice.

What does a pilot generator do?
On a millivolt heater the pilot flame heats the generator, which produces a small voltage. That voltage is what holds the gas valve open. No signal means the pilot goes out the moment you release the valve button.
