What the switch does
A pool heater is not allowed to fire unless water is moving through it. The pressure switch is the device that proves that flow. It sits in the water path, senses pressure and closes a contact, and only then does the control let the burner light. If the switch fails open, the heater runs its start sequence and stops, usually with no obvious fault at the plumbing.
