The Hayward CX800RE is the genuine 75 square foot replacement cartridge element for the Star-Clear II C800 cartridge filter.

Why the OEM element

Cartridge filters are rated by the square footage of pleated media inside them, and that number decides how long the filter runs between cleanings and how gently it works. Aftermarket elements often quietly deliver less area in the same outer dimensions. The filter still assembles, but pressure climbs faster, the pump works harder and the cartridge gets cleaned twice as often. CX800RE carries the full 75 square feet the C800 was designed around.

Getting the most from it

Rinse from the top of the pleats down and work the spray between them rather than blasting across the surface. Give a washed cartridge time to dry fully before it goes back in, which is the argument for keeping a second element on the shelf and rotating the two.

Knowing when it is done

Replace the cartridge when a proper cleaning no longer drops the pressure back to where it started, or when the pleats are permanently matted, split, or pulling away from the end caps.
