Product details

The Pentair 78310500 is a junction box with a poly cover and a brass base, supplied in the 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch configuration. It is the genuine Pentair part.

Brass base, poly cover

The combination is deliberate. A cast brass base gives a solid, threaded mounting that holds its shape, while a polymer cover cannot corrode shut, so the box can still be opened years after it was installed. Anyone who has fought a seized metal cover on a pool deck understands why that matters.
