Why the tread matters
A suction cleaner has no drive wheels in the usual sense, it walks the pool on the grip of its tires. The humped tread on the Rebel is what lets it hold the floor, take the coving and climb the wall. Once that tread flattens, the cleaner starts sliding, stalls in corners and stops covering the whole pool, even though nothing inside the unit has failed.
