The Raypak 006731F is the genuine cast iron return header, in the ASME build, for the R185A, R265A and R335A pool heaters. It is the casting that caps the return end of the heat exchanger.
What it does
The headers close off each end of the tube bundle and turn the water through it. The return header carries pool water at full system pressure and sits directly above the burner, so it lives with heat on one side and whatever chemistry is in the water on the other. That combination is what eventually gets it: pitting and cracking from aggressive or unbalanced water, and once a casting is through, it weeps.
Before you order
Two checks. First, the model: this header is listed for the R185A, R265A and R335A. Second, the rating: this is the ASME version, and the ASME and standard heaters take different castings, so read the data plate rather than assuming. The inlet and outlet header at the other end is a separate Raypak part.
