Product details

The Pentair 154578 is the old style strainer air relief screen, the version used on filters built before 11/99. It is a round metal mesh screen on a rubber base, closer in appearance to screen door mesh than to a filter element.

Picking the right one of three

Pentair made three screens to this pattern. They look alike, and the difference is in the dimensions and in the size of the hole through the rubber base, because each is matched to a different tube size. This one measures 1-1/4 inches in diameter and 7/8 inch high, with a 1/4 inch hole that sits fractionally under that. Measuring the screen you pulled out is the fastest way to be certain.

Where it is used

It turns up across a range of filters: Pentair Triton II sand filters in the TR40 through TR140 sizes, the commercial TR100C and TR140C, the Triton C-3, PF stainless steel side mount sand filters, and the Purex CFM and CFW cartridge filters.

How do I know which of the three screens I need?
They differ in dimensions and in the size of the hole in the rubber base, because each one suits a different tube size. This one is 1-1/4 inch across, 7/8 inch high, with a 1/4 inch hole.
What does before 11/99 mean?
It marks the older style of screen. Filters built after that date use a different air relief part, so check the age of the filter.
What is it made of?
A metal mesh screen attached to a rubber base. The mesh is much like the mesh in a screen door.
