Product details

Waterway 400-5161B is the 2 inch split nut for the 2012 heater. It is the genuine Waterway part, and it is the fix when the nut at the heater connection has cracked, stripped or been cross threaded.

Why it is split

An ordinary union nut has to be slid onto the pipe before the fitting is glued on. A split nut is made in halves and closes around plumbing that is already in place, which is what makes a heater swap or a nut replacement possible without cutting pipe. That convenience is also why these nuts get damaged: they are handled far more often than a fixed nut ever is.

Fitting

The nut provides clamping force only. Sealing happens at the union o-ring, so bring the nut up hand tight and stop. Over tightening is what splits these in the first place, and if the joint still weeps once the nut is snug, look at the o-ring and the sealing faces rather than reaching for more leverage.
