What it is for
When a sand or D.E. filter is backwashed, the dirty water has to go somewhere other than back into the pool. This hose carries it from the valve outlet to wherever you are allowed to discharge it. Fifty feet is enough to clear the equipment pad and the surrounding landscaping on most properties.
Using it
Slide the hose over the 2 inch backwash outlet and clamp it in place before opening the valve, since backwash flow will push an unclamped hose off. Roll the hose out straight so it does not kink, and let it drain before rolling it back up. Where backwash water can legally be discharged varies by area, so check the local requirement before you point it at a drain or the street.
