The Hayward W3PRO25-10 is the factory original ORP sensor for Hayward CAT controllers. It replaces the part previously sold as PRO25-10, and Hayward lists it as a 2 year sensor.
What it measures
ORP is oxidation reduction potential, and it is the reading a chemical controller uses to judge how hard the sanitizer in the water is working. The controller does not know what the chlorine level is; it knows what the probe tells it. When the probe drifts, every dosing decision downstream of it is made on bad information.
When to change it
A sensor that will not hold a calibration, or that reads steadily against what a test kit shows, is worn out. Cleaning the tip is worth trying first, but a probe past its service life will not come back.
