This is the factory original Hayward pH sensor, part W3PRO15-10, supplied with a 10 ft cable. It replaces the earlier PRO15-10 and is the sensor Hayward specifies for its CAT controllers.
What the sensor does
A chemical controller only doses as well as it reads. The pH probe is the input for the acid or base side of that loop, so when it drifts, coats or dies, the controller keeps working from a number that is no longer true. Replacing the probe is the first step when readings and hand tests stop agreeing.
Service life
pH probes are wear items. Hayward lists this one as a heavy duty sensor, but every probe eventually loses its response and will not hold calibration. Keeping a spare on hand avoids running the controller blind while one is on order.
