Product details

The Hayward AXV301 is the intermediate gear for the vinyl model suction cleaners in the Pool Vac and Navigator family. It is the genuine Hayward part, molded in plastic.

Vinyl models

Hayward lists this gear for the vinyl versions of these cleaners. The concrete, gunite and desert models are built with their own gear set and the parts are not interchangeable, so confirm which version of the cleaner you have before you order.

What it does and how it fails

The intermediate gear sits in the middle of the drive train, passing turbine power through to the wheel gears. It sees the full load every second the cleaner is running. When its teeth chip or round off it slips instead of driving, and the cleaner behaves as if it has lost power: the turbine still spins, but the machine crawls, stalls in a corner or stops following its pattern. Since every gear in the box has done the same hours, inspect the rest of them while it is open.

Does this fit concrete model cleaners?
No. Hayward lists AXV301 for vinyl models only. The concrete and desert versions use their own gear set.
Where does the intermediate gear sit?
Between the drive coming off the turbine and the gears that turn the wheels. It carries the full drive load, which is why it wears.
Is this a genuine Hayward part?
Yes. It is Hayward part AXV301.
Should I replace the other gears at the same time?
If one gear has chipped, the others in the box have done the same hours of work. It is worth inspecting all of them while the gear box is open rather than opening it twice.
