The Pentair 472180 is the air pressure switch for the MiniMax NT pool heater. It is the genuine Pentair part.

What it does

A gas heater will not light until a series of checks have all passed, and the air pressure switch is one of them. It has to confirm its condition before the sequence is allowed to continue, which is what stops the heater firing when something upstream is wrong.

When to suspect it

The pattern to look for is a heater that starts its sequence, gets partway, and then quits without producing heat. Plenty of faults look like that, but the pressure switch is one of the least expensive to replace, so it is worth eliminating before you move on to the costlier components.

What does the air pressure switch do?
It is a safety interlock. The heater will not proceed with its ignition sequence unless the switch confirms the expected condition, so a failed switch stops the heater lighting.
