The Zodiac R0525100 is the drive shaft assembly for the Baracuda MX6 and MX8 suction side pool cleaners. It is the genuine Zodiac replacement, the same assembly the cleaner left the factory with.
What it does
The MX cleaners have no motor of their own. Pump suction spins an internal engine, and the drive train carries that motion out to the tracks that pull the cleaner across the floor and up the walls. The drive shaft assembly sits in the middle of that path. When its gear teeth round off or the shaft wears, the engine keeps cycling but the tracks lose their drive.
When to replace it
A cleaner that sits in one spot, creeps slowly, or stalls part way up a wall while you can still hear the engine working is showing drive train wear. Grit is the usual cause: fine sand works into the drive train over the years and grinds it down. The assembly arrives ready to fit in place of the old one.
