The Waterway 400-5090 is a 2 inch self-aligning union with a slip connection, used through pool and spa plumbing wherever a joint needs to come apart again.
Why a union earns its place
Solvent welded PVC is permanent. Put a union either side of a pump, filter or heater and that equipment can be pulled for service or replacement by loosening two nuts, instead of cutting the pipe and rebuilding the run every time. On a system that gets winterized or serviced regularly, that pays for itself quickly.
Fitting notes
The self-aligning design draws the two halves square as the nut comes up, which helps the seal seat evenly. Tighten by hand only. Union nuts seal on hand pressure, and reaching for a wrench is the usual cause of a cracked nut or a distorted seal.
