The Sta-Rite 42001-0057S is the replacement transformer for Max-E-Therm pool heaters, listed for the SR-200, SR-333 and SR-400. It is a new OEM part.
What it does
The heater runs its controls on low voltage. The transformer takes the incoming supply and steps it down to feed the control board, the ignition control and the switches around them. When it fails, the heater goes completely quiet: no display, no fan, no response to a call for heat, even though power is present at the unit.

A dead panel has more than one possible cause, so check for output on the secondary side before condemning the transformer. Isolate the heater at the breaker before opening the electrical compartment.
