Product details

The Pentair 38000-0007S is the thermal regulator for the Max-E-Therm heater water system, supplied with its clip. Our category data lists it with the Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm SR200, SR333 and SR400.

What it does

The thermal regulator meters water through the heat exchanger so the exchanger works in the range it was built for rather than being flooded with cold water. Get that wrong and the heater either struggles to raise temperature or runs cold enough inside to condense on the exchanger, which is not a condition it survives for long.

When to suspect it

Slow or inconsistent heating with a clean filter and good flow points at the regulator. Because Sta-Rite is a Pentair brand, the service part for a Sta-Rite badged Max-E-Therm carries the Pentair number 38000-0007S.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Does the clip come with it?
Yes. 38000-0007S is the thermal regulator supplied with its clip.
Which heaters does it fit?
It is the regulator for the Max-E-Therm water system, and our category data lists it with the Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm SR200, SR333 and SR400.
Why is it branded Pentair when my heater says Sta-Rite?
Sta-Rite is a Pentair brand, so the current service parts for Max-E-Therm heaters carry Pentair numbers.
What goes wrong when the regulator fails?
Heating gets slow or inconsistent, and the heater can run cold enough internally to condense, which shortens the life of the exchanger. If the heater is behaving that way with good flow and clean filters, the regulator is worth checking.
