Product details

The Waterway 400-6000 is a self aligning union with 2-1/2 inch slip connections, for PVC pool and spa plumbing.

Why a union

A union is the joint that lets equipment come out again. Put one on each side of a pump, filter or heater and the unit lifts off the pad without a saw, which turns a seal change or an off season pull into a short job instead of a replumb.

Self aligning

Real pipe runs are rarely perfectly square. The self aligning design pulls the two halves into line as the nut is tightened, so the union still seats and seals when the approach is slightly off.

Installing it

Both sockets are slip, so they solvent weld onto 2-1/2 in PVC. Tighten the union nut by hand only. The seal is made by the o-ring, and a wrench on the nut is the fastest way to crack it or distort the seat.

What does self aligning mean?
The union draws the two halves into line as the nut is tightened, so the joint still seals when the pipe run is not perfectly square.
Should I use a wrench on the nut?
No. A union nut seals against its o-ring and only needs to be hand tight. Over tightening is the usual cause of a cracked nut or a distorted seal.
