Product details

This is the genuine Pentair 36305-4008 plug, a 1-1/2 inch NPT threaded plug. It appears on the Sta-Rite System 3 D.E. filter parts diagram for the S7D75 and S8D110 models.

What it is for

A plug like this closes a threaded port that is not being used, or seals a drain point once a filter is put back into service. It is a small part with an outsized consequence: a port left open or badly sealed will empty a filter tank, and a plug that has cracked with age will do the same thing quietly, over hours, while the pump loses prime.

Fitting it

NPT is a tapered thread, so it seals by wedging as it goes in rather than by being cranked down hard against a face. Thread it in until it is snug and stop there. Plastic ports split when someone reaches for a longer wrench to chase a drip, and at that point the repair becomes a great deal more expensive than the plug. If the original plug used an O-ring, inspect it and replace it if it is flat or hardened.

Sta-Rite is part of Pentair, which is why a plug shown on a Sta-Rite filter diagram carries a Pentair part number.

Which filters is this listed for?
The Sta-Rite System 3 D.E. filters, models S7D75 and S8D110. Sta-Rite is a Pentair brand, which is why the plug carries a Pentair part number.
Does it come with an O-ring?
The source lists this as the plug. If your original plug sealed with a separate O-ring, check that it is in good condition and order a replacement if it is not.
How tight should it go?
Snug, and no more. An NPT thread seals as the taper wedges, so an extra half turn with a wrench does not make it tighter, it just stresses the plastic port it is screwed into.
Can I use thread sealant on it?
