Century VGreen Evo Variable Speed 2.25 THP C Flange Pool Pump Motor, 230/115 V, 56J Frame, EVC225

The Century EVC225 is a VGreen Evo variable speed pool pump motor rated 2.25/1.50 total horsepower, on a 56J frame with a round C flange. It runs on 230 or 115 volts with automatic voltage detection and is totally enclosed fan cooled.

Why variable speed

A single speed motor runs at high rpm around the clock, over-circulating the water and spending energy to do it. Variable speed lets you turn the water over at the lowest rpm that keeps it clear. Running slower uses far less power, makes noticeably less noise, and keeps the motor cooler, which is why these motors tend to last longer than the ones they replace.

Fitting and controls

Programming is done through an interface built into the motor, using a single button to select pre-programmed schedules. There is no external controller to wire and no plumbing change, so on most pumps the swap is the same job as fitting a standard single speed or two speed motor. Century lists this motor for use with the Hayward Super and Super II pumps.

Single phase, 1.7 kW output, 600 to 3450 rpm, service factor 1, 13.5/17.4 max amps, automatic thermal protection, Class F insulation, 50 C ambient, 50/60 Hz, continuous duty. Frame length 8.68 in., shaft 0.625 in. diameter with a 7/16-20 threaded extension, ball bearings both ends, clockwise rotation at the lead end. The motor is California Title 20 compliant and meets the California Energy Commission rules for replacement pool pump motors.
