The Century B985 is a two speed square flange pool and spa pump motor for 230 volt service, running 3450 RPM on high and 1725 RPM on low.

Why two speeds

Half speed cuts noise and energy draw sharply while still turning the water over, so most of the filtering day can run low and the high speed is kept for vacuuming, heating and backwash. The motor uses a capacitor start and run design on the low speed and a PSC arrangement on high.

Construction

It is a 56Y frame motor in an open dripproof enclosure with automatic thermal protection, class B insulation and a 1.10 service factor. The square flange is aluminum, the shaft is 303 stainless in a threaded 5/8 inch diameter and 1-7/8 inch length, and it turns on ball bearings rated for a 50 degree C ambient. Overall length is 14.40 inches on a 6-1/2 inch body.
