The Century SQS1202R is a full rated, two-speed square flange pool pump motor: 2.0 HP on high and 0.33 HP on low at 230 V, on a 48Y frame with a 1.3 service factor for 2.6 total horsepower. Century lists it as used on many Sta-Rite, Red Jacket and Sears jet and pool pumps.

Specifications

High speed runs 3450 RPM at 11.3 A and low speed runs 1725 RPM at 3.3 A, single phase, 60 Hz, continuous duty. Century builds it with all copper windings, capacitor start on low speed and PSC on high speed, Class B insulation for a 50 C ambient, an open dripproof enclosure and an automatic thermal protector. The 5/8 in. shaft is 303 stainless steel with a 1/2-20 UNF-2A thread, and wrench flats on the shaft are reached by removing the end cover. Rotation is counterclockwise at the pump end, and the motor measures about 5-5/8 in. in diameter and 13-13/16 in. long.

Choosing a replacement

Century's rule is that a replacement motor's total horsepower, nameplate HP times service factor, must equal or exceed the motor coming out. Match the 48Y square flange, the threaded shaft, the 230 V supply and the two speeds as well.

Before you install

Century ships its two-speed motors without the hi/lo switch, for remote operation; the end cover and switch kit is part 615332, sold separately. Wire the motor by its nameplate diagram, to the National Electrical Code and local requirements. Century notes that this motor has no Safety Vacuum Release System, which some pools need to meet local, state or federal rules.

Will the Century SQS1202R replace the motor on my pump?
