The Hayward SP14982S is a 2 in. flush union with a female socket connection, used in pool plumbing runs.

What it does

A union lets a section of pipe be disconnected and reconnected without cutting into the plumbing, which makes servicing a pump, filter, or valve much easier since the fitting on either side of the union can be pulled apart at that joint. Unions are typically installed on both sides of a pump, filter, or valve so that component can be removed for service without disturbing the rest of the plumbing run.
