This is the genuine Jandy R0557100 air relief for the pressure gauge, a replacement part for Jandy CS Series cartridge filters.
What it is for
Every cartridge filter traps air at the top of the tank, whether from a restart, a leaking pump lid or a filter cleaning. The air relief is what lets that air out. Until it is purged, the trapped pocket makes the pressure gauge read incorrectly and keeps part of the element out of the water.
When to replace it
The relief is a small part in a wet, high pressure spot, and it is a common source of the slow drip that runs down the side of a filter tank. If it weeps when closed, will not open cleanly, or the stem is stiff, change it rather than tightening it further.
It is a direct replacement in the original position, so nothing else on the filter needs to change.
