Jandy R0557200 is the air relief valve for the CS series cartridge filter. It is the genuine Jandy part.
What it is for
Every time a filter is opened, air gets into the tank. The relief valve is how that air comes back out. Open it on startup and hold it open until water rather than air comes through, and the tank is full. Skip that step and the gauge reads low, the filter runs on a pocket of compressed air, and pressure can build in a way nobody wants near a plastic tank.
When it needs replacing
Relief valves live on top of the filter in full sun and get operated by hand several times a season. The seal hardens, the stem seizes or the body cracks, and it starts to drip whenever the pump runs. Tightening a weeping relief valve does not fix it and usually splits the body.
