The Pentair 075207Z is a 1/4 in. air release valve kit, the manual relief valve listed with the CF ABS cartridge filter. It is the genuine Pentair part.
What it does
Every cartridge filter needs a way to let air out. When the pump is primed or the filter has been opened for a cartridge change, air collects at the top of the tank. Opening the relief valve until a steady stream of water appears clears it, so the filter fills with water instead of running against an air pocket.
When to replace it
Relief valves fail in two ways. They weep or drip when they should be shut, or they seize so they will not open at all. Either one is a reason to fit a new valve rather than try to rebuild the old one. Open the valve before loosening a clamp or lid, and never run the filter with the valve blocked.
