The Hayward ECX271261 is the genuine pressure gauge with dial used on Hayward pool filters. It is catalogued with the Star Clear Plus cartridge filters, models C751, C900, C1200, C1750 and C1900.

Why the gauge matters

Filter pressure is the only instrument most pool systems have. Clean the filter, note the reading, and every service decision afterwards is made against that baseline. A rise of roughly 8 to 10 psi says the media is loaded. A reading that drops instead says the pump is being starved on the suction side, which is a different and more urgent problem.

How gauges fail

They almost never fail obviously. The needle sticks, the face fogs, or the calibration drifts, and the gauge keeps showing a number that looks reasonable. That is worse than no gauge, because the pool gets serviced on bad information. If the needle does not return to zero with the pump off, replace it.
