The Hayward DEX2400CR is the genuine flex auto air relief assembly for Hayward DE filters. It fits the Pro-Grid models DE2420, DE3620, DE4820, DE6020 and DE7220, and the Micro-Clear DE filters including the stainless steel versions.
What it does
Water carries air into the filter, and that air rises to the top of the tank. The air relief gives it a way out. If the air stays in, the tank runs with a pocket above the water, the grids do less work than they should and the pressure gauge stops telling you much about the filter.
The flex tube
The assembly uses a flexible tube that reaches the highest point inside the tank, which is where the air collects. That is what lets it purge properly rather than venting only when the level happens to be right.
When to replace it
Swap the assembly when it drips at the relief, sticks shut, or stops purging air on start up. It comes as a complete assembly, so the old one comes out and the new one goes in as a unit.
