Product details

The Hayward DEX2400H is the element locator for vertical grid DE filters in the Pro-Grid and Micro-Clear ranges. It is the genuine Hayward part.

What it does

A vertical grid DE filter works as a pack of flat elements standing in a tank, each one coated with diatomaceous earth. The locator is what keeps that pack correctly spaced. Under flow the grids want to move, and if two of them lean together the powder cannot coat the faces where they touch. That contact patch then passes dirty water straight through while the rest of the filter does its job, which shows up as a pool that never quite clears.

Fitting

The locator only comes out when the tank is open and the grid set is lifted, so change it as part of a grid clean rather than on its own. While the grids are out it is worth looking over the fabric on each one for tears at the same time.

What does the element locator do?
It holds the DE grids in their correct spacing inside the tank so the elements stay square and cannot lean into each other under flow.
Which filters does it fit?
Hayward Pro-Grid and Micro-Clear vertical grid DE filters. The source lists the Pro-Grid models DE2420, DE3620, DE4820 and DE7220, and the Micro-Clear range including the stainless steel version.
Why does grid spacing matter?
DE filtration depends on an even coat of powder over each grid face. Where grids touch, the cake cannot form and dirt passes straight through that contact patch.

Any time it is cracked, distorted or missing legs. Do it while the tank is open for a grid clean rather than as a separate job.
