How a filler works
An automatic filler is a small tank plumbed to a water line, with a float riding on the pool level. When the level drops, the float drops, the valve opens and water runs in. When the pool is back to level, the float lifts and the valve shuts. Everything in that cycle depends on the valve sealing properly when it is closed.

Two failures are common.
