What the orifices do
Each orifice is a precisely sized opening that meters gas into the burner. The size sets how much fuel reaches the flame, which is why orifices are matched to both the fuel type and the heater size. Damaged, corroded or previously drilled orifices upset that metering and show up as poor flame, sooting or a heater that will not hold its temperature rise.
