The Hayward CHXTSW1931 is the three way toggle system switch used on the H-Series heater control panel. It is the genuine Hayward part.
What it controls
The system switch is the selector on the front of the heater that sets which mode the unit runs in. Every call for heat passes through it, so when the contacts inside wear, the symptoms look like a much bigger fault: the heater does not fire, or it fires only sometimes, or it ignores the position you have set it to.
Check the switch before the board
Toggle switches are mechanical and they wear out. A switch that feels sloppy in the hand, or that has to be held to keep the heater running, has failed even if it looks fine. Testing continuity across the terminals in each of the three positions settles it in a couple of minutes and often saves a control board that was never the problem.
