The quickest check is the top rim. The basket this part replaces normally carries the number 1006 molded into the rim, so lift yours out and look before ordering. The body measures 6-1/2 inches tall with 6-3/4 inches across one end and 7-1/2 inches across the other. Our sources disagree on which of those measurements is the top and which is the bottom, so measure both ends of the old basket and match the pair rather than a single figure.
Why not run without one
A skimmer basket is the last barrier before the pump. When it cracks or the rim breaks away, leaves pass straight through, and what would have been a basket change turns into a clogged impeller, a lost prime or a burnt out seal. Baskets are the cheapest part in the entire circulation loop.
Life expectancy
