Product details

The CMP 25140-000-700 is the float valve for in-ground pool skimmers, in white. It is the small floating assembly that sits inside the skimmer and closes the suction path when the water gets low.

What it protects

A pool loses water to evaporation, splash out and backwashing. When the level drops below the skimmer throat, an open skimmer starts pulling air, the pump loses prime and it runs against nothing. The float drops with the water and shuts that path off before it gets that far. It is one of the cheapest parts on the pool guarding one of the most expensive.

When to replace it

Floats fail quietly. They take on water, they crack, or grit collects on the seat so the valve never closes fully. If the pump loses prime whenever the level is a little low, check the float before you suspect the pump.

What does a skimmer float valve do?
It sits in the skimmer and floats on the water. When the level drops below the skimmer throat the float falls and shuts off that suction path, which stops the pump pulling air and running dry.

How do I tell if mine has failed?
