What the swivel is for
A robotic cleaner turns constantly. Without a swivel in the cord, every turn adds a twist, and after a few cycles the cable is a coiled rope that will not let the machine reach the far end of the pool. The swivel takes that rotation out, which is why it is part of the assembly rather than an accessory.
