Hayward FDXLGSK1933 is the return side tube sheet insulation kit for H-Series pool heaters.
What it does
The tube sheet is where the heat exchanger meets the header, and the insulation at that joint shields the assembly from the full heat of the combustion chamber. Over years of firing cycles the material bakes, hardens and eventually breaks down. Once it does, heat reaches parts that were never meant to see it directly, and the damage accumulates quietly until something more expensive fails.
Doing the job
This kit covers the return side only. Hayward supplies the air side and the front air box as separate kits, so identify which one is in front of you before ordering. Old insulation almost never survives being removed, so buy the replacement before you open the heater rather than discovering mid job that the original has crumbled.
