Product details

The Hayward SP1418DDGR is a Hydrostream flanged eyeball fitting in dark gray, with a 1-1/2 in. MPT thread and a 3/4 in. eye. It threads into the return in the pool wall and becomes the visible face of that return.

What the small eye is for

The eye is deliberately smaller than the line feeding it. Restricting the outlet raises the speed of the water leaving the fitting, and that jet is what moves the whole body of water in the pool. A pool that turns over properly holds chemical evenly and pushes floating leaves and dust toward the skimmer instead of leaving them to settle.

Aiming it

The eyeball swivels inside the flanged body, so the direction is set on installation and can be changed later. Pointing the flow down and away from the skimmer is the usual setting for circulation. Raising it toward the surface skims harder but stirs the deep water less.

Color

This is the dark gray version. The color code sits in the part number itself, so quote SP1418DDGR when matching the fittings already on the pool.
