The Hayward SPX1408C is the vinyl inlet face plate gasket, the flat gasket that seals a 1.5 inch return inlet against a vinyl liner. It is used on the Hayward SP-1408 inlet and on other fittings built to the same pattern.
The measurements
Outside diameter is 3-3/8 in. The center hole is 2-5/32 in and carries a notch, so the gasket seats one way only. Four outside holes measure 3/16 in and sit 2-1/2 in from the hole opposite, measured at the center line. If your existing gasket matches those numbers, this is the right part.
When to change it
A face plate gasket that has gone hard, flat or torn will let water track behind the liner at the fitting. It is a cheap part to renew any time the return face plate comes off, and far cheaper than chasing the leak later.
