Product details

The Hayward SP1418D is the HydroStream return inlet fitting with a 3/4 inch opening, in white. It is the genuine Hayward part.

What it changes

A return inlet does more than let water back into the pool. By narrowing the outlet, a HydroStream turns the same flow into a faster, more directional stream. That stream is what carries circulation across the pool instead of letting it die a foot from the wall, and good circulation is what makes chemicals disperse evenly and pushes floating debris toward the skimmer.

Sizing and aim

This is the larger 3/4 inch opening. A smaller opening produces a faster jet but adds resistance on the return side of the system, so the size is a trade off rather than a case of smaller being better. Aim matters as much as size: point it away from the skimmer and slightly down, then watch where surface debris collects and adjust from there.

What does the 3/4 inch refer to?
The opening the water exits through. Hayward lists this SP1418D as the large 3/4 inch HydroStream.

Which way should it point?
Generally away from the skimmer and slightly downward, so the current sweeps the floor and travels the length of the pool before returning. Aim it into the dead spots you already notice.
