Product details

The Pentair C5-249 is the high head mechanical impeller rated at 5 HP for the D Series commercial self priming centrifugal pool and spa pumps.

High head, and why it matters

The impeller profile decides what the pump can do. A high head impeller develops more pressure against resistance, which is what a system with long pipe runs, a heater, or heavy filtration actually needs. Fitting the wrong profile leaves you with a pump that moves water freely on the bench and disappoints on the pool.

Match the rating

Impellers are matched to motor horsepower. This one is the 5 HP part. Fitting a different rating changes the flow curve and can load the motor in a way it was not designed for, so read the rating off the old impeller or the pump label rather than going by diameter.

When to replace

Flow that never fully returns after the pump basket, the filter and the suction lines have been checked points at the impeller. Vanes pack with debris, and the edges wear over years of service until the pump can no longer make its rated flow.
