What the housing does
The housing is the front body of the pump. It holds the strainer basket, takes the suction plumbing and passes water into the volute, and it is the part that carries the drain plug for winterizing. Because it sits on the suction side, damage here rarely shows as a drip: instead the pump pulls air, loses prime, or holds a low water level in the basket while it runs.
