When a housing has to be replaced
The strainer pot takes the abuse on a pool pump. Freeze damage, a cracked union boss or threads that have finally let go all end the same way, with a pot that will not hold vacuum. At that point no amount of sealant or new lid gaskets brings the prime back, because the leak is in the housing itself.
Why a kit rather than a housing
The pieces that fail alongside a housing tend to be the same ones every time: the lid gasket, the knobs and the swivel nuts on the unions. Supplying them together means the pump goes back together with new sealing surfaces rather than a new pot bolted to tired hardware.
What it does not cover
The motor, impeller and seal plate are separate parts. This kit is the wet end housing and the hardware around it.
