Product details

The Pentair 520010Z is the micro switch set for CVA-24 valve actuators, supplied with the levers and screws. It is the genuine Pentair replacement.

What the switches do

A valve actuator has to know where the valve is. The micro switches are the limit switches that provide that: as the actuator drives the valve around, a cam reaches each switch at the end of travel, the switch opens, and the motor stops. Everything about correct valve positioning depends on those two contacts opening at exactly the right point.

Symptoms of a failed switch

A worn switch, or one that has lost its lever, does not break the circuit where it should. The valve then stops short of its position, runs past its stop, or the actuator sits there trying to drive and buzzing. On an automated system that shows up as water going to the wrong place, which is easy to blame on the controller when the fault is a mechanical contact inside the actuator.

Replacing the set

The set includes both switches with their levers and the screws to mount them. Changing them together is the sensible approach: the two switches have seen the same duty cycle, so a single replacement usually just means going back in a season later for the other one.

What do the micro switches do?
They are the limit switches. As the actuator rotates the valve, a cam trips each switch at the end of travel and cuts the motor. Without them the actuator has no way of knowing where the valve is.
What does a failed switch look like?
The valve stops in the wrong place, overshoots its stop, or the actuator keeps trying to drive and buzzes. A switch that has worn or lost its lever will not break the circuit at the right point.
