The Hayward HAXGSV0004 is the propane gas valve for the H-Series pool heaters. It is the genuine Hayward part, and Hayward also carries it in the parts data for the H-Series ED2 electronic gas heaters in the 150 through 400 range.
Propane, not natural gas
Gas valves are fuel specific. This one is the propane version, and a natural gas heater needs the valve Hayward lists for natural gas instead. Confirm which fuel the heater is set up for before ordering, and match the part number on the valve you are removing.
When the valve is the problem
A heater that calls for heat, runs its ignition sequence and never lights, or one that fires and then drops out under load, is often failing at the gas valve. Rule out gas supply, pressure and the ignition control first, because those are cheaper to check and are just as common.
Installation
This is gas train work. In most areas a licensed gas technician has to make the connection, and every joint has to be leak tested before the heater goes back into service.
